Well, it would help I had some idea of your complexion. But I would suggest starting with a gloss first. It just gives you a hint of color and if a particular shade looks good as a gloss you might be able to lipstick shade similar to it but longer lasting. Try a red gloss. By itself it is simple but noticeable. For a darker complexion try a nice berry. If you have a fair or lighter complexion you may even look good in pink. I base a lot of my lip choices on what color clothes look good on me. I had a fuchsia blouse that I always got complements on. So I found a pink gloss. My mom gets complements when she wears orange so she bought rust colored lipstick. As for eyes, nothing is more simple than mascara. I will wear mascara and lip gloss only and the two do wonders. Unless you have fair eyelashes go for black mascara. Eye color is probably the most difficult because there are so many ways you could go. If you have a lot of yellow or gold tones I would say to try a kit from cover girl with two are three shades of warm tones that way you can experiment. One you find out your undertones(warm. coo, or neutral) you will have a lot to choose from.

Which skin tone do you have???
Sometimes clashing colours looks as good as colours you are suited to. I have loads of Christian Dior eyeshadows that would look great on all skin tones..............from the darkest to the lightest. I think there is a red lipstick to suit all colourings too............that depends on your lip shape and size to be able to carry it off.
Try big stores like Selfridges and Harvey Nicholls..............they would probably help you better than people at boots and it is a no obligation thing.

Well neutral color such as light brownlook good with light neutral lip. Do not ever use blue eye shadow with bright red lip. Many girls make that mistake and think their so cool. Not cool!!!!!!!!!!!

You can test how the makeup will look on your face by rubbing a small amoun of it onto the web of your hand between thumb and index finger - it's closest to the skin tone on your face

You could try that new makeup from Almay. All you have to do is pick light, medium, or dark. It starts out white then is supposed to match your skin tone. I've never tried it, but it looks like a nice product. http://www.almay.com/Pg/Main/CatProdDet.aspx?catid=31&catnm=Face&subid=233&subnm=Foundation&prd=28636

i really wish americans would stop answering uk questions, they're so confusing!!
anyway, back to your question.
i'd go to debenhams or john lewis and book a makeover with whichever brand you think you'll feel most comfortable with (or the one you can afford), they have trained make-up artists there, so it'll be good advice. they'll ask you what colours you usually wear, what you like etc..
good luck!
