Caring for the environment is one thing, to worship it is another. The extreme environmentalist have turned it into their own personal religion based on lies and not scientific facts. A great example would be the Alaska pipeline and the caribou herds.

Bye-bye Caribou?: Many people suddenly developed a “passionate concern for the mating habits of Alaska caribou and campaign noisily against intrusion of Arctic pipelines into this essential activity,” reported The Christian Science Monitor on Oct. 10, 1972. The New York Times on Oct. 14, 1973, said the question is “whether the caribou will go the way of the buffalo.”
Reality: Thirty years later we can see the effects of the pipeline on the caribou. Walter Hickel, a former U.S. Secretary of the Interior and governor of Alaska, said that the caribou herd “has not only survived, but flourished. In 1977, as the Prudhoe region started delivering oil to America's southern 48 states, the Central Arctic caribou herd numbered 6,000; it has since grown to 27,128.” Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game Web site reports that “in general, caribou have not been adversely affected by human activities in Alaska.” Pipelines and other manmade objects have been built to accommodate caribou movements, and the animals have adapted to people and machines.

Environmentalism...or at least an understanding of our environment and its importance in our lives, is an important issue. I realize many are using it to warn people of the end of the world, as has been prophesized, but if it forces everyone to take a look at our situation, then I'm all for it. And just like any other religion, if it doesn't speak to you...don't listen.

Is the fiasco in Iraq doing the same, or is that comparison unfair? Is it OK for the republicans to introduce religion into every thing they say but on the other hand use that same religious stance against the democrats, because after all it isn't the republicans trying to clean up the environment for the good of the earth and its people.

Maybe for some, however we are inseparable from our environment, and you know that amongst my people we have always believed in care taking for Earth Mother ( Ina Maka), perhaps the Evangelical community has now learned stewardship and yes in their case it has in deed

I think clean air, fresh water, and a healthy ecosystem is something tangible to desire.

Not as if we can just pray to go to another planet.

Alex B., son of Adam, be happy for those you call liberals, for they abandoned religion long ago. If this is their new religion, rejoice for them. It's time they learn there is a force greater than them. It's time they learn there is consequence for their actions.

Interesting. Maybe a cult is more like it. They keep going until there's a large volcanic eruption, coupled with record cold and snowfall following it, and then they drink the kool aid.

No. Environmentalism is based on science, and there is no room for science in religion.

This is a great question. It seems to come close to bordering on paganism.
