I am undecided and sorry if i have brought up anything bad with this question.

I don't think people should be jailed for it, however knowing that some people have lived happy lives after thinking about the subject makes me wonder.

Also, what is the surrent law on euthanasia in Britain?

Thank you in advance, x

I'm pretty sure it's illegal, unless the person is on a life support and shows absolutely no sings of recovering (i.e. braindead) then the family can sign a form to request them to be taken of life support if they so wish. Also seriously ill people can sign a form saying that they do not wish to be recusitated if their heart stops (not technically euthanasia).

I think if all euthanasia is made legal then there is a risk that some people will abuse this and basically kill someone claiming they wanted to be killed. It's very easy to manipulate or guilt say an elderly person into signing a euthanasia form and so they can claim money off them or something heinious like that.

I'm happy with the current laws on it - I think if someone is braindead, then there is no point in keeping them alive and I know this next part sounds mean, but it takes up hospital beds and equipment.

As for any other types of euthanasia, helping a friend/family member kill themselves is not the right way to do things. Some ill people are mentally ill and they cannot think straight.

Oh, it's a very controversial issue as you said and not everyone will share the same ideas but as I said before, I think the current laws are fair.

Good question....

I personally am no quitter. I figure terminal sherminal. There are beautiful days outside, great books to read, great things to see and learn. I am not going out without a fight no matter how painful. I appreciate every day I wake.

Now everyone is not like me and that's perfectly understandable.

Euthanasia should be legal in completely professional settings where many professionals agree the patient is of sound mind to make the decision to kill themselves. Terminal illness is different than tragedy striking a once vibrant mind turning it to mush.

There is a form you can fill out now in case you should ever have something tragic happen to you and are left without the capabilities to determine your fate. The DNR--Do not resucitate...

The problem with legalizing it is the same with cloning, and stem cell research. Though most cases will be of legal and moral standards, you will have seriously mentally ill "professionals" making and manipulating the elderly and sick to do this to feed there perverted cravings of sadistic murder. Both cloning and stem cell also could lead to very questionable medical practices. Though I am not saying these few bad things should out weigh the good that can be done by any of these things....

Someone on here mentioned "why don't the sick do it themselves?" That is a misinformed statement/question. Many folks believe suicide is the quickest way to eternal life in hell. If these "professionals" are willing to do the deed by giving the shot, they may have already come to peace with there version of after life and are comfortable having this weight on them.

It is indeed controversial...I see myself flip flopping on the issue...Jeez....There may not be an answer everyone can agree on.

Also, I worked in a Veterinarians office and I have seen some comments referring to the slaughter there. Sometimes unfortunately, it is just that. Slaughter. Not all animals are euthanized because they are terminally ill. I've seen it all, some people just don't want to take care of these pets anymore-they've been chained up in there back yard for months being neglected. Some are for concern that the animal will bite, understandable. Though I had a guy bring in nearly a kitten that peed one time on his floor- I could imagine poor grandpa wetting the bed one time and well.....eek.
Let's all try not to compare how animals are treated to humans because let's all hope these pracitices are never practiced on humans. I don't want to be chained up in the back yard! lol Though we tried to save as many animals as we could, most are euthanized because no one else wants to take care of them .... Tragic and could one day be the outcome of legal human euthanasia.

What an interesting question, well done !
It is currently illegal in Britain, but perhaps it is time for the law to change ! I believe that if someone has no quality of life, and there is NO CHANCE of recovery at all EVER then it's up to that unfortunate person and their loved ones to decide what's best for them !
Having watched someone I loved dearly " exist" for 4 years in what seemed to me to be hell ,if that choice was available to us we would have signed on the dotted line ( it is what he wanted anyway) , out of love . It was so cruel, we would not allow an animal to suffer like that,as it is inhumane...but we allow humans to suffer like that as it would be murder ! I don't get the logic there .
However, if there is a chance of recovery, then it shouldn't be an option .

Dont know about Britain, but, we dont even make our dogs and cats suffer through fatal illness, so why do we require it from humans? Seems to me that euthanasia is a perfectly humane and rashonal option for the fatally ill.
I certainly would prefer it to lengthy sufferring. If there is a God, I'm sure "he" would'nt want us to suffer, would 'he"?
Religion is the biggest problem we have in the world. It should be practiced only as an individual choice, and not forced on other people. Christian whackos are no less whacko then Muslim whackos. A whacko, is a whacko.

it is currently classed as murder in the Uk

my personal views are that it should be legal in registered and official / regulated establishments. i know that some will say only god has the right to take life, but i really believe that if someone is suffering and the only prognosis is more pain suffering and death then they should have the right to choose their own destiny.

it is a very sad subject, but then so is death dying and suffering.

it would also stop people going to prison for helping their loved ones, and prevent the murder of people under the guise of euthinasia.

I think an individual should be able to decide to end their life, regardless of the circumstances, and any professional wanting to help them do it as painlessly as possible should legally be able to. Most certainly, it should be a well thought-out decision. Obviously, not a spur of the moment, "Hey, something didn't go my way, life isn't worth living." thing. But it's your life, I feel you have the right to decide you don't want to live anymore. Maybe you could have lived happily, had you decided to live on. Maybe not. Regardless, it's your life, it's your decision.

Why discriminate on age? Why not skin color, or eye color, or height, or country of origin? If you are going to murder people based on arbitrary traits that a person has no control over, then why is murder wrong at all?

What does it matter if a person is 2 weeks old and in the womb, or 90 years old? They are still a human being. What does it matter if they are white or black, they are still a human being.

How big of a monster do you have to be to desire to murder another human based on age or skin color or anything else that is beyond their control? That's sick.

I don't see it as murder.
If some one is going to live the rest of their lives in discomfort or in a vegetative state, then they should be allowed to pass away peacefully.
