I have been on several interviews. I do everything I am suppose to do: dress nicely, wear makeup, show up early, answer questions apporiately. But I never make it passed the interview. I have come to these conclusions: I live in a rather small town, I am more educate than the interviewer and they fear that the one they hire will take over their job.

well look at who they hire first, and perhaps draw your conclusions from that. you may be over qualified, like you said, or perhaps even underqualified in some dept. see who they ARE hiring, and become that, or move if town too small.

Well, if your resume contained spelling and grammatical errors like your question above, I probably wouldn't hire you either. Another thing, your attitude may be showing through in your interview.

A superior attitude, combined with obvious errors makes you look like a potential attitude-problem to a potential employer. Probably not worth the effort if you cause problems around the workplace.

I'd suggest learning humility, correct spelling, correct grammar. Drop the better-than-thou attitude (nobody really cares you're a college graduate...that only gets you in the door) and then apply for a job.

Also, if you're in a small town, it would probably be better to expand your search to neighboring cities and possibly even search nationwide.

In some jobs it requires some background experience like vollenteer work so you get a basic understanding in what your getting into. Other jobs would like you to be a little bit more outgoing if your not already. There are many reasons to why they didnt hire you but instead of trying to figure them out try maybe doing extra like on your resume it ways volenteer and stuff you should try volenteering more and getting out there. you will get hired eventually. Or you might have to go back to skool and pick a mainstreem where you would like to direct your career path to if you dont already have one. Some people just finish college without a direct carreer major and alot of places dont hire them because they dont have the backup qualifacations or experience to back them up. You got to think on this one and answer some of those qestions. My advise to you is to just keep on applying to what you decided to major in what you have the qualifactions and experience for. And they are most likley to hire you.

I had a hard time finding a job because people thought I was overqualified. I went on monster.com - and I was approached by several recruiters. They helped me to tailor my resume for each specific job entry, and do mock interviews, etc. so I knew the right thing to say, etc. They can also help you narrow down what job is the right one for you. Also, on monster.com you can do a search, indicating how far you are willing to move for a job.

Don't loose hope. All newly graduates are having hard time looking for a job. You belong to a small town which has little opportunity compare to cities so I advice you to look also for jobs outside your town,if you can, because there will be more opportunities for you.

Yeah, move on. Get out of town. Go to a city and get a job in your area of expertise. Once you have a career resume, if you want to go small-town, it will be easier and you will be smarter at getting the job.

i know how you feel. they may not think you would stay because you do have a degree and they imagine you just want to work here untill something better comes. They don't seem to understand that there aren't a lot of opportunities in small towns.

try getting some volunteer work.

Perhaps if you have some "experience" you can show on your resume, it will make you look more employable.
