but the people who used to be negroes (or blacks) now call themselves African Americans? Shouldn't they call it African American History Month?

by the way, I am a European American, since I've never been to Europe either......

Well one thing is for sure......you picked the perfect sign on name because you are an idiot! I am not an African American! I am black! And damn proud of it! I think black people with ancestors from that country should be called African Americans. My answers were Native American Indians. But I still choose to be recognized as a black woman. And as far as the History Month is concerned.......if you don't know yours, then don't let ours concern you!

I've heard it called both actually. I think most people refer to it as Black History month because that is what they are used to calling it. But all blacks don't refer to themselves as African American. That is really a politically correct term that is used formally. But informally most black people refer to themselves as black.

My husband is black and he does not call himself african he calls himself black. They still call it Black History Month because that what it is called thanks for the two points
