The Jews, the Muslims, and the Christians all claim Jerusalem as a holy city. It has been a holy city in Judaism for thousands of years longer than Christianity or Islam, by virtue of the date of birth of each religion. As a Christian, I think the Jews should have the primary rights to the city.

The Jews had 2 temples built in Jerusalem then after Jesus's death the places He lived and preached was around Jerusalem including Bethlehem, Nazareth and Capharnem but there are many Christian shrines in Jerusalem where Jesus died and was buried.
Islam says that Jesus was a great prophet they also have a mosque over a byzantine Church that they say is where the world began. Mecca and Medina are there real holy cities no infidel is allowed to go near them. So I dunno why they claim this city too its not that great a part of their worship, they are just being selfish.

The three Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity, Islam. Also called "people of the book".

Jews because it was the location of the Great Temple.

Christians because it's where Jesus was Crucified.

Muslims because it was the place from which Mohammed ascended to heaven.
