If your are driving in Germany on the Autobahn your Porsche will leave the BMW in the dust. And off road a number of standard features that come with the Porsche will be found wanting if not ordered with the BMW. In every test done between the 2 the Porsche came out the winner. I would pick the Porsche over the BMW any day.
For me the question would be more the Porsche Cayenne S, or the Mercedes G500 or G55AMG. As far as combining on or off road performance I believe that these are the top of the line.

you don't have a choice, cayenne's are not being made in o7...the x5 is a superior machine...if you want a porsche, get a 911 or cayman or whatever, the cayenne is underpower and heavy, the 4.8 x5 is nimble and it handles like a dream.

I like the BMW better as an suv, but Porsche wins hands down in the sports car department. there's something too bastardized about the Porsche SUV. The idea just seems wrong.

i have driven both... porsche wins! also it seems everyone and his bro has a x5. the cayenne, draws more attention. face it.. when we purchase a vehicle like this, we look at that factor as well!
