I don't mind being referred to as British as long as it is not on an official form. For some reason that really gets my back up. You can be Scottish, Welsh, Irish or British!!! I was born in England and am (was) proud to be English!! I would be proud to be Scottish or Irish or Welsh too. We are a unique nation, yay for us!!

I don't like it much - I regard myself as Welsh or a Celt or even European, and never describe myself as British. I regard "British" as being more applicable to the "British Isles" as a geographical location.
To me, someone who is a "Brit" loves the Queen, speaking English only, snobbishness, watching soccer, etc etc.
However, I know most people from other countries don't intend to be rude when they use this term.

It annoys me, because I am a Scot... but I wouldn't get too upset about it. It's the same kind of thing as a "Brit" being called a "European"..

I much prefer to be called English, rather than British, but that's this government for you, they will insist on changing things which don't really need to be changed. !! xx
