Is medical transcription really a good career in New York City? Im in school for my associates in medical administration, but I dont know what area to starting focusing on... billing, coding, or transcription.

The fact that you never see any ads in the paper means that it is a good job with low turnover. Unfortunately, it also means that it is a competitive job.

Its not a particularly good job according to my former GF who was a med transcriptionist, and it dosent even pay that well either. Why you might not see a lotta ads for it is because what little left being done (Some places have already went with voice recognition software.. no transcriptionist needed) is farmed out to a company that hires people to work at home on thier computes transcribing (Docs voice is sent via com.. person types it sends it back via comp).. They pay per line.. the faster you type the more you make But its not Bill Gates money (but its maybe better than McDonalds money) There is a very high turn over rate, and demand isnt what it used to be, and its a very dull and boring job. My X GF hated it.. so she just quit one day, and opened up her own business that has nothing to do with transcription.. Shes an esthetician now (cosmetoligist kinda sorta) Makes way more money (WAY MORE) and owns her own shop now.. and is by appointment only (2-3 week waiting period usually)
