Getting rid of the word does nothing. The N-word will just replace the actual N word

I'm not American, so I'm not familiar with American law, but an American did make a comment regarding a very similar question on YA. He said the First Amendment allows him the right of freedom of expression, which also gives a person the right to use the "N word". He said he didn't agree with the use of it, but it was the price you have to pay if you want to have the freedom of expression.
What is sad is the NYC actually feels the need to do something about this. Surely a degree of sensitivity would show the word belongs to an era which many Americans now see was an error.

Is NYC banning the word or the schools. I wouldn't use it ever because I believe it is obscene, demeaning, and brings back the ugly history of how people of different skin colors, faiths, or economic level are treated as less than equal.

Get real. You can't ban a word. You can regulate it's use in areas administered by the city or state, but you can't ban the word itself.

Its a great idea.We complain we want to be treated equal, but then we dont allow them to use a word we do everyday. No one should say the word , it draws a line, and we shouldnt cross it. Maybe not sayin it will bring us together, make us more understandable ....put us on another level and make us sound less ignorant. Its worth a try.

How exactly do you ban a word? Does that include thinking it too?

More liberal stupidity.

I prefer that people use whatever words they want. That way it's really easy to spot idiots and bigots immediately.
