Lets start with some basic information about you. If you happen to have a good grade point average you can apply for scholarship. The first link I have for you can direct you on that. The rest are similar but you have to look threw it to find something that suite you. You can also looking to any other scholarships that have no ties to school, basic free money for you, and save it. Even if you do not have the greatest grades, still try. Do not be discouraged if you do not get all of the ones you go out for. In fact, do not look over the small scholarships either, my brother applied for many small scholarship and some that he did not qualify for, like ones for Hispanic women, the group did not have any other applicants and he was given the money for $100.

Have a yard sale, aim for may or june, I mean you will not be in this country for a while. Get rid of thing you know you will not take with you. Your style and taste will change, I know you will buy some new clothes over there, so make some room in your closet. Any movies, (dvd, vhs), games and systems, books, random niknaks, as well as any donations your friends and family are willing to give you. Ask them a month in advance. Make sure you have something to drink and eat to sell, a small batch of cookies or brownies, bottle water or cans of soda. Visit a smart and final or costco for your best warehouse deals, well them for about 75 cents.

If you have a lot of friends, organize a car wash in your area. Have fun with it, play some music, and sell snacks like before. Just make sure to call up your local gas station in the beginning of the month, for may the last saturday of the month and june, the first two saturdays, are the two best weekends to do it. After your hard work, take everyone out for pizza or burgers. It might seem costly but you would make a good amount of money to do it! It is the least you can do for the free labor.

Next if you are like many college students, you can take up a part-time or full-time job during the summer. I know you may have personal finances you have to worry about, but if you truly want to go I suggest you take all the money you would for entertainment and save it. What am I talking about, well if you go to the movies, rent movies, pay for cable, pay for WOW membership, eat out once a week with friends do not do it anymore. Take those monies and store them in a saving account with your bank, ask bank officer if they have a high wielding savings account, basically a high percentage rate that pays you interest for saving money in that account. Every penny counts, even if you spend money on gum, breath mints, or candy, you can take that "change" into the bank and gain interest on it. Example, a 6% interest rate on $100 is $6, so you add up every bit of money you can save, and you can turn $5000 into $5300.

This is next idea is something my friends and an I do when we go on missions trips with our church, we write friends, family and church members for support. Support letters are simple. You write about yourself, for the small amount who do not know you all that well. Tell them about your life, what you plan to study while abroad, what you plan to achieve with your education/degree and how you can turn around and help your community. Next tell them what you are doing to save money to do this, odd jobs, saving, scholarships, etc. Then tell them you are unsure if you will be able to make the deadline for full payment, that is when they come in. Just a one time gift of $50 (trust me that is a lot to ask) or $10 for five months (they like an option if you are willing to work with them on payment). If they can not give you that much, tell them any gift would bless you. Tell them a little goes a long way, that you are appreciative for all the help they can give you. Thank them for their time and effort in blessing you. That you also appreciate them for their prayers. Whether you a believer or not, prayers are a great thing to have. Some people may not feel to comfortable in just giving you the money, so offer yourself as a laborer, tell them you are willing to do odd jobs for them as well. This will also bring some more people in. My friends and I ended up babysitting a lot, but ended up with more than we needed.

Well I hope this little bit of advise will help you. I pray that you will be blessed in your trip as well as your studies. Focus hard and I know you will do well. God Bless!

Find work here to earn money ahead of time. You dont want to work there free time should be spent learning about the host county. If you cant earn enough talk to someone in your family about a loan, then work it off when you are back.

what kind of work - now that depends on your age and abilities. If you are young explaining the situation to prospective employers may even help you get a job.

Additionally you might ask your family if they woudl be willing to give you money toward your trip in lieu of gifts this year.

Study abroad is a great opprotunity and worth some personal sacrifice to do it.

Loans possibly? They're usually very good with students and a lot you don't need to pay back for at least 10 years or until you graduate.
