Usually a fake weighs less than the real one. Look for letters that have a mushy appearance. Raised bumps on the coin is a giveaway also. Look also for strange looking scratches and indentations. A coin dealer can help here for he has a scale and most deal in gold coins. If you are buying a coin have a dealer look at it. Always make sure the dealer will back up the authenticity of a coin and in writing.
