It's a nice laptop, great deal. I have it, got it from Circuit City. Best Buy also had them, but both stores in our area sold out.
Ok, here's what I can tell you.
It's nice, looks sweet. Screen is NICE and CRISP.
Battery doesn't do to bad.
The keyboard is sweet, springs back to place.
Case is a little more scratch tolerant I think (on the top)
Once you get into windows, it runs very quick.
The con,
it does seem to run a little slower in the booting and shutting down (but not bad within windows)
The other thing I am working on is the wireless. It works, yes. Now if you toggle the wireless card off by pressing FN F2, it does turn on and off the wireless card. However, somehow in the settings when you turn it back on ... it turns on the display light however does not allow you to reconnect. I have found a way around this, but it's a bit annoying. You have to go to the wireless properties, and disable it (there's an actual screen), then re-enable the wireless. After doing so turn on the FN F2, and go to the bottom right right click connect o network. After doing that and connecting you should be good to go.
With that being said, I haven't noticed to much of a drag on the battery with the wireless being left on.
That is the biggest down side I have found so far with this. I've called Gateway and they are scratching their heads about it. I've talked with a Techie friend, and he agrees its most likely not a hardware problem. Just a Vista glitch I presume.
Not all programs will run, or even install correctly on this machine as of yet. So ... it's up to you. If you have a bit of patience, it's a great deal. I love it, and I have 12 more days to return it if I change my mind. I'm working with the store, and Gateway to figure this out. I might even call Microsoft. I like the laptop, and I don't want to return it.
I hope this helps and makes sense. Good luck in your shopping. My mother bought a Toshiba in the same price range 599, with a gig of ram and an 80 gb hd. It runs well. I just liked gateways english speaking tech support.
Good luck.

It's a fair price, however, I would wait for Intel to publicly release full specs on this new mysterious CPU that no one seems to know anything about ...
.....not even the sales reps contacted at Intel !?
I would wait for detailed reviews & specs on the T2060 ... you want to know what you are buying don't you .... right now not even Intel is willing to tell you.

'Intel Pentium Dual Core T2060', What is it?
Intel has come out with a new value/performance oem notebook processor. It is featured on the front page of many Sunday newspaper inserts in preorder Vista laptops. The trouble is that there is no information about it on the Intel web page, no reviews on the web, and the Intel retail sales support guy who was nice to help me could only find the basic information.
It runs at 1.6Ghz with a 533Mhz fsb and has a 1MB L2 Cache.
The naming of this processor is extremely confusing:
It is a dual core mobile processor but it doesnt use the Duo name.
It is a value processor with a reduced L2 cache but it doesnt use the Celeron name.
It uses the Pentium name, but a duo-like numbering scheme, as the T2050 is a Core Duo with 1.6Ghz, 533Mhz fsb, and 2MB L2 cache.
I think it is based on Core Duo architecture but I am just guessing. Maybe it is a crippled Core 2 Duo or some weird Pentium Dual Core for desktops.
The questions are:
Does it have the full power saving features of a Core Duo or is speedstep disabled, etc?
Is it just basically a T2050 with less cache or are there other important differences? Is it even Core Duo architecture?
Does it have other features disabled to slow it down, like a Celeron? Or to limit future memory upgrades etc.

I would never recommend a Gateway no matter how good of a deal it seems to be.

It looks ok, it depends what your using it for. If your looking for a laptop that you'll use to paly games, edit video, ect. I'd recomend something faster. but if its for just basic stuff it looks good. But its sold out anyway

It's good, but the hard drive is a little slow so you will definitely notice a slowdown there, but everything else is good.
