Why did Dr. Hardin choose Texian Iliad as the title for his book?

Homer's "The Iliad" tells of the foundation of the powerful Greek state through the destruction of their old enemy, the city of Troy. In choosing his title, Hardin implicitly compares the Texans' revolt against Mexico to the Greek war against Troy.The Texans are the Greeks, presumably.

As for his purpose, it was to record history; that is what historians do.
