I have stayed there 4 times in the last 4 years- It is great and less crowded the most of the casinos on the strip- The weekends are a little more crowded. The Pool is the 2ND best pool in LV. The casino is round and you cant get lost in it like most of the other casinos in town. When you check in ask for a room higher that the 6th floor with a view of the pool/strip- At night the lights from the strip are awesome.

I recommend the Hard Rock Hotel very highly. You do have to plan to stay on the property a lot, but there's a lot to do. The casino is more youthful than most in Las Vegas, partly due to the distance from The Strip. The pool experience is excellent. We really enjoy the HR restaurants. There's a certain ambiance that I cannot put into words, but it's not an accident that other Vegas hotels have tried to copy the music, lighting, etc. Tip the Concierge $2 and maybe the Hard Rock van will take you over to The Strip. Then you only need a taxi back at $8.00. There's something to be said for being away from The Strip. And Don Henley hangs at the poolside bar frequently.

Not the best hotel, and off the main area.
I would be more inclined to stay on the "strip" where there is alot going on all the time within walking distance. Especially since this is your first time there, you'd want to experience more of the city instead of being practically landlocked at the Hard Rock (realistically speaking, since it is much easier just to stroll down the block than to take a cab or bus to the area which many people will not bother with more than once or twice at most). There are many many choices along the strip, and you can usually find some decent deals as well.
As for nightlife, you can find anything you'd be looking for.. and more

Currently HR caters to the younger jet set. great music vibe to it and very classy. Rooms were recently remodeled. Wann-be's "players" hang out there, hoping to someday be real palyers and move up to the Palms.

New owners will change the place to middle class urban hotel with some slots in it. So get there quick.

I liked it. The room itself was average. But the casino had a cool party vibe. Went to a couple of shows at the Joint....
