Americans are generally racist. If you travel and live outside the U.S., you'd see that other countries are prejudiced, but not racist. Prejudice is generally about religion and cultural beliefs, not skin color.

Ignorance and fear -- as clearly demonstrated by Cndnsct's answer above.

It's pretty sad, when you boil it down. A pitiful, closed, and shrivelled mind connected to a soul that reels from the unknown and from anything that's different from their very tiny perpsective.

It's been proven that racists have lower IQs (not that I believe in IQ, but interesting all the same).

Every culture has racism. Whites don't hold a monopoly on ignorance or fear -- unfortunately, it's all too common in the human race.

Check this site for information about racists and their puny IQs: http://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/sayar/riqs.htm

I become more and more racist every time I come on answers, only because I always see some ignorant black person Whining about their damn history and how all white people are to blame for this... Why do you refer to the KKK in your question? Why don't you ask Black people about The Black Painters that go as far as killing people because of their skin color or would that be racist...

Ignorance and fear -- as clearly demonstrated by Babu Chicorico is more like it...

I have no Fear I'll say it right to your face if you were right in front of me... I say what is on my mind and if you don't like it then to F**ken bad... And to let you know I have an IQ of 132...

People are racist for the same reason people are sexist, homophobic, etc. Fear of the unknown. Fear and self conciousness which has to be masked by a pompous attitude and hatred for anything other than what you are.
And racism DOES exist outside the US, as opposed to what some people have stated.

Because a lot of racists tend to ride the coattails of people in their race who've accomplished things in the past and use this as justification of why they are just as superior - cuz they're the same color. Of course, to rational minds like you and me, the correlation is absurd. But then again, no one said these poeple were the brightest.

People are racist because they fear cultures that are different from their own. They use this fear to fuel a hatred towards a certain culture, which in turn becomes racism.

They lack fulfillment in their lives; so, they become jealous of what other races have that they do not. It's a jealousy issue. The KKK is jealous of black people.
