as in more than one chassis.

The way I understand the on-line dictionary is that it's only pronounced differently, but spelled the same as the singular form. This makes no sense when it's in a sentence.
Ex.
I have one chassis.
I have two chassis.
I have three chassis.

It just don't look right to me....

Plural Of Chassis

Although both the singular and plural are spelt the same way - "chassis" from the same word in French - they are pronounced differently. The singular is 'shassi' while the plural is 'shasseez'. This does not happen in French but the word has been in English for nearly 400 years and has collected an English plural along the way - in pronunciation anyway.

I tend to distinguish different types of mistakes. Some are just typos - I frequently manage to type contcat instead of contact, or hit two keys and add an exctra letter. That doesn't worry me, as meanings are clear. I am more annoyed when the error involves using a wrong word entirely - especially if it makes the meaning unclear. There was a question today from someone who said she had a care accident: did she mean an accident caused by a carer, or when she was in care - or was it in fact a car accident. PS - you should have said "Why do some people GET upset ............"

The word in both singular and plural is spelt the same as Chassis. However it is pronounced as Chassi or Chaassi. since the word when pronounced ends in an "i" sound in both singular and plural it was felt more convenient to say two "chaassi" or three "chaassi" or a "Chaassi" as the "ess" sound was not pronounced.
