The castellated Windhouse on the Scottish Isle of Yell, has been derelict since the 1920s,and is reputedly one of the most haunted homes in the country. The ghostly goings-on are attributed to the presence of an ancient graveyard under the original structure. Spectral occupants are said to include a servant girl who mounts invisible steps, a man in a top hat, and a ghost dog. There is also reputed to be a lady dressed in silk, who is believed to be the spirit of a woman whose skeleton was discovered under the floorboards of the main stairs when earlier renovations were carried out. The ghostly throng is rumoured to have sent the building's last living occupant fleeing in terror. Also, Glammis Castle gets lots of mentions: 'Glamis Castle - This is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in the world. Hundreds of ghosts litter the hallways. A lot of them are "green ladies", which are entities of pure green. Countless tales of death, misery, chaos, etc penetrate this castle with an eerie aura. One of these tales tell that somehow a monstrous beast accommodated one of the rooms. Hidden from most people's view, this monster was said to live more than a hundred years. People who lived in the castle hung a sheet outside all the windows they could find, and when people looked around the castle from the outside, the one without a sheet draped over the window was assumed to be the one which held the "beast". Take your pick!
