Have they become just too conservative for their old good? Never take risks because of money?

Agreed...I think they have just gotten lazy and are more worried about how much cash it will bring in. I can't believe they remade the Hitcher, and now they are going to redo Hellraiser. It really has more to do with the money than anything else. They are all panicked that the numbers at the theater are so bad,

Who said mainstream ever had creativity?

I don't listen to much music... I don't know if music sucks more or I'm just getting old. It all started when Metallica went to 'turn the page'... ugh.

As for movies, the risk takers are the ones with lesser budgets. Crank was awesome. A Scanner Darkly - that's taking risks. But YES, they're conservative because most people just want to shovel popcorn in their mouths and not use their brains. Its less entertainment than spacing out for 90 min..... kind of like kids watching cartoons - the lights on, but nobody's home.

Hollywood producers know this.

In my opinion, movies are getting better but music is at a creative standstill. Personally, I think the lack of creativity isn't due to useless songwriters, but more to do with the demands of music producers. Music has become commercalized to the extent that instead of being created for one's enjoyment and then shared with the world, it has to be created to 'fit the market'. And that market has also been instigated by the record companies. Rather than letting an album sell by its own quality, the producers market it in such a way that you are forced to think you like it.

Well until they stop trying to "play" to the generation of people that love gore and reality we won't see any good tv or more than a few good movies. I hate when I turn on the tv anymore and that I wonder what movie promo's gonna gross me out, just disgust me etc. What happen to good ole' funny (not gross/disgusting humor), scary (NOT blood/gore, torture etc), or silly movies. I mean I don't mind the "freddy kruger" types at Halloween but Christmas time or the rest of the year?? PULEASE...sigh
I'm going to see "Because I said so" this weekend now that looks funny and plays to several generations..

YES because reality shows have taken over everything on TV. Plus a lot of good shows came to an end in the past three years like Drew Carey and Frasier and Angel and they all get replaced with reality TV.

Conservativism isn't the issue. Pure hacks hedging their bets with an undeclared monopoly on just about everything is a lot closer to the truth.

Completely? No. Just almost entirely. Every once in a while something pops out with a glimmer of creativity.

Same as ever, really.
