When I was in high school the boy I had been dating for about 3 weeks gave me a necklace with the name Candy on it in diamonds. I was extremely surprised as first of all it was "obviously" expensive and secondly NOT MY NAME. He told me that I was sweet like "candy" and that's why he got it for me and that it was too late to have one specially made. About a week later I thought I'd surprise him by walking the mile and a half to his house on the weekend so we could go to a movie. No cell phones then. When I knocked on the door his sister answered. She immediately screamed and pulled the necklace off my neck and demanded to know who I was and where I had found the necklace her fiance bought her as a birthday gift ! In case your haven't figured it out, "she was CANDY". I apologized and simply told her to ask her brother Danny ! Needless to say I refused to speak with him ever again. Unfortunately when my husband bought me the same type of necklace for a birthday gift a couple years ago with my "real" name on it I immediately started laughing when I opened it. It wasn't the reaction he was looking for but he totally understood. We laughed together when he told me the reason he chose it was because "no one else" would have the same one. We still giggle about it each time I wear it.

I had been on a diet for several months and had lost about 15 pounds. Valentine's Day came on a Saturday that year and Saturday morning before I left for work I said to my now EX husband, "We've been married for 15 years and you have never gotten me anything for Valentine's Day. Do you think you could this year?" He said he would think about it. He came to my work about 4 hours later and threw (and I mean he threw it) this box of chocolates at me as he says, "Well I did what you said hope you enjoy them." I picked them up off the counter and looked at the box of chocolates. I told him I didn't want them but he was half way out the door. My boss said I was mean because I said I didn't want them after he had obviously taken the time to go get me a present. I pointed out to him that I had to ask for a present and after 15 years of not getting me anything he gives me a small box of chocolates and he didn't give them to me he had thrown them at me. He said Point taken. I gave them to my fellow employees and we had a big fight about his lack of support for me and anything I want to do for myself when I got home.

my ex used to get me stuffed animals...every year. It started when I was a teenager..I think I was 18...but 10 years later he was still doing it. I know it's the thought that counts. But he put no thought into it at all. I ended up just giving them to my kids a week later.

My ex-husband bought me a case of Pepsi, a carton of cigarettes, and a pair of jeans that were 3 sizes too big.
What happened? Well, notice I said my EX-husband.

my husband brought me a dozen roses....DEAD ones. the manager of the store was going to throw them out.
p.s. he ended up feeling really crappy about the whole thing, now he gets me fresh ones and a nice card. i told him that even if he didn't get me a gift that's not what's important, but dead roses made me think he really didn't care. ...anyway, we're still married and he's a good guy...lol
