My friend is a lesbian and has a lot of good qualities. She does a lot of good for her office colleagues, friends and family. She does not
trash people to feel better and or to get ahead.

She doesn't get any respect from her old male supervisor and young female co-worker. She can't do right by them. They treat her like disease. They think of the worst in her. The rest of the colleagues adore her.

Your friend needs to be herself, no matter what those morons may think. The other co-workers must not tolerate any "jokes" or discriminatory language in the workplace.

Furthermore, if they are harassing her or discriminating against her based on her natural sexual orientation, she needs to march right down to HR and see that this is stopped immediately. She also could have basis for a lawsuit .

Good luck!

Most people are like that; you tend to judge a person by looks, sexual orientation etc. Theres nothing we can do. You're friend did good by coming out and being herself. All the better since she's good for all.
Unfortunately we can't do anything much about people judging us. I don't think making a scene trying to prove, 'hey I'm a lesbian, but that don't make me bad' argument will come out with anything good.
Switching jobs where she will be respected which co-workers is not suitable as there always be people trying to put her down.
So the best is to do what you're best in. Do your job right. And do it with dignity. As long as you've done what you've had to do, other's can't complain. Just don't stay around waiting for their respect...
Best of luck!

Your friend just need to live for herself, because even if she wasn't a lesbian, people would still talk about her.
