Paper.
When you're done with it, it becomes a biodegradable trash bag to toss in the dumpster. Garbage does not break down in landfills because we hermetically seal it in plastic trash bags that keep it in an airtight bubble for hundreds of years. Also, plastic is made from oil, which is a non renewable resource, and requires the use of more oil to use for the energy needed to process and recycle it.
The save the trees argument lost its footing years ago with the simple truth that old growth trees are not cut down to make paper. Paper companies harvest trees from tree farms, which are grown specifically to make paper. It would be like saying "save the corn, we're going to eat it all and it will be gone." If anything, we should use more paper as trees serve to transform carbon dioxide gas into solid carbon, which will no longer affect the atmosphere. That solid carbon can then be used for paper, buried, and start the process again by planting a new tree.

I prefer plastic. True, paper is better for the environment, but plastic has so many uses after you take the groceries out of the bag.

Paper. It's renewable, biodegradeable, and easier to dispose of. Recycling plastic is a dirty industry.

most important is that i use the bags again and recycle RULES !
in other countries they take their same bag to the store and refill that same bag for years.... they are best at recycle compared to wasteful americans...myself incuded
