No one under 18 can be liable under a contract, so for security reasons, I would not give out a child's social to anyone. They have no business needing it.

Depending on what kind of evil this guy is, he could also be trying to commit identity theft. Stranger things have happened, sometimes user scumbag "parents" use their children's social security numbers to apply for credit to get new credit cards, apartments, etc. I've seen folks as young as 18 with collection accounts from years back because "mommy or daddy" screwed over their own child for selfish gain--and it's no treat trying to get those injustices corrected.

Protect that child of yours...

To claim him on his taxes. Sounds like he is trying to scam you out of having him as a dependent by covering his motive with a BS excuse.

Could be to claim him as dependent on his tax returns even though you are the primary caregiver.......

Who knows why he wants his SSN. I would let him get a copy of his SSN himself. He can get a copy of his birth certificate and his SSN. Make he work for it. You are not required for any reason at all to make this information available to him.
