i've found that putting foundation on my lips and smoothing it out to the edges around them helps keep the lipstick in place

Well--I agree with the other suggestions so far and I empathize--becasue that has happened to me as well...You might consider buying a more expensive lipstick brand or one that is more herbal--lipsticks are usually made from animal fat--most brands--and when it gets hot--as it probably will since it's sitting on your mouth--on your lips--then it will melt--Certain herbal based lipsticks might be better..I have heard of this line of cosmetics--haven't tried them yet--but now that you asked this question--it is reminding me to give it a try--The name is called Sundari--and it is based on ayurveda--a holistic approach--and uses natural herbs, etc...so--I'm thinking--this might not melt-and cause your lipstick to bleed all over....
Good luck...

Some good tips and also: when you've finished your lips, take loose powder (or if you wear Bare Escentuals, do another layer of it) on a concealer brush and "line around" the lips. In other words, you'll be right on the outer side of your lipliner. That helps me immensely!

Try finding a liner that matches the lipstick color you want to use. Use it INSTEAD of lipstick. Essentially, color in your lips with the liner. Liners tend to be dryer and less oily than lipsticks. A liner will also last longer.

Liquid Eye Shadow - keeps it in place - find a shade that works well with the color lipstick your using - then put a light coating of it over it.

try putting on lip liner and then apply a slightly shiny lip gloss over the top. it seals the lipstick on and that way it doesn't bleed. at least mine doesn't. hope this helps.

i would say first of all to put foundation on your lips before applying lipstick, and also use lipliner which should help the bleeding.

Have you ever tried using Chapstick as a lining. It coats your lips and keeps them moisturized.
