My spam is automatically deleted by me. Why would companies pay for this type of viral advertising when it's understood that nearly everyone hates it? Or are there really that many gullible people to make Spam worth it?

It might surprise you, but yes, there are. A lot of spammers use botnets (groups of computers they've hijacked) to send out their stuff, and it basically costs them nothing no matter how many messages they send out. Even if 99% of the people out there know that everything that spammers push is cr@p, if spammers are pushing out messages by the hundreds of thousands they'll find enough suckers to make it worth their while.

There must be that many gullible people out there. There are still people getting scammed by those Nigerian scams stating they are the son of some prince or something and they want to give you 25 million dollars. I really don't know why people fall for these, it's rediculous. Until everyone stops reading the spam and everyone is not so stupid and gullible, it will continue.

If you look at the number of people in this forum who ask the same question over and over, you'd know that the world wide web is full of gullible people who still think you get something for nothing, and fall for the gimmick. All it takes is 1 credit card or 1 checking/savings account and 10,000 spam mails are paid for. IT'S BIG BUSINESS!

I heard it is the cheapest form of advertising. But like you, I do not like spam, and even personally make it a point to never buy anything spammed to me. Even advertising from the shops I normally patronize. Spam me and Im out of your shop forever!

However, if you personally subscribe to some commercial websites, that is different. I like those.

Spam worked at one time, before virus protection software caught up. Now, most people know how to block it, or divert it to some folder in their mailbox. Then, it usually deletes automatically after a few days.

well in my experience in it, it does work. think of how many people have computers that are linked up to the net. then how many of them like what they see in spam? put it together and you get spam business. if it works once, then twice. it's going to work after that. once a company can get people to buy or subscribe from a spam ad, then you have that company getting their money back.

another note, it does just keep popping up and you just might get a glimpse of something you like and if you buy it or subscirbe to it from their ad, then you just contribuated to their spam skeem.

I would think it would have to be worth it, or they wouldn't keep sending it out.
