Mob Rule. Under democracy, one has no Rights. Unfortunately, many folks are mis-using that word now. A government may use democratic processes to elect representatives but that does not make it a democracy.

That is why our nation has a Republican form of government, even though we use democratic processes (elections) to select the leaders of our Republic.

US CONSTITUTION
Section 4.

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

Speakeasy is right.

I can add that a "real democracy" has never existed. The fabled Greek democracy was based on wealthy Athenian citizens showing up to vote for issues by raising their hands.

Which means 200-300 voted, while 30,000 didn't.

Its the rule of the majority, even if it's tainted.
Just like when Bush convinced the whole country and the world SADDAM has WMD, and that He wants democracy in IRAQ.
The country supported him ( DEMS and REPUKS).. then that same majority shamelessly woke up in the last election realizing they got duped and slapped NEOCONS out of both houses.
That's democracy limping!

Israel is a democracy. Everybody votes on every law. So if a law comes up it is sent to all the people in the country for a vote.

It's suppose to mean that people have rights and a say about what is happening in their government. Iraq has been in the negative on that one for a very long time. Not that it's 100% fool proof ...we have been mopping up messes and paying for the mess of our governments split personality forever. Part of our government tends to go overboard on special interest groups and the manipulative advertisement of such - thus history speaks loudly when foresight is ignored.

Democracy (literally "rule by the people", from the Greek demos, "people," and kratos, "rule") is a form of government.
