with some instructions and examples attached. I am unclear to layering and other terms so am kinda looking at a progression of programs from basic to more complex for personal use. Am working with a Pentium2 machine.

Illustrator and Corel Draw are excellent. I was in a class with a man who did all his art on his laptop. As for understanding layering, you're best to take a class in it. I did, and I'm still a bit fuzzy about it. You have to keep playing with the program to see what you can get out of it. If you are a college student, or can get into a college class, the bookstores will offer significant discounts for those programs.
