Yes, it is called phishing. These low-lifes are trying their darndest to get your personal and banking information. Unless you purchased a ticket to a lottery, what makes you think you've won one.

I report these people:

In Yahoo Mail, Options, General Preferences
make your settings display full headers

Next time you are told you won millions of dollars but have to supply the tax money or your SS number, open the e-mail - do not click on anything - select it - including the full header.
Now, copy.
Get out.
Go to "compose"
Paste the information in the message box and mail to:
reportphishing@antiphishing.org

They will investigate and hopefully shut them down.

Of course it's a fake. I've always taken the position that anything that shows up in my inbox from anyone or any organization I don't know or do business with is fake, a scam, or at the very least spam. If your email provider has an option to report it as spam, do so.

Not only the reports of winning lotteries are fake but also asking you to continue with PAN connections or ISD connections, and then asking you for various deatails is fake.
Be very careful. Some people just live on looting.

If it randomly showed up in your email inbox, it is a scam. Just delete it.
