The word is Emancipated, and yes, it's possible but not easy. You will need a place to live, a way to support yourself, and a plan for continuing to attend high school. You will need to bring all of this before a judge in court before you can get approval. It might just be easier to put up with your mom and try to avoid the arguments for a couple more years, till you have graduated and can find a job. My theory: it's possible to put up with anything as long as you know it's temporary.

You mentioned mom, what about dad? Other relatives?
Yes at 16 you can get emancipated in most states. However, this is a last resort and the State will want to know if there is another avenue.

I agree with keepsonda. The courts will not emancipate you unless you are truly responsible and can support yourself. Be careful when dealing with child protective services - you may get more than you asked for... A foster home could be a whole lot worse! Best Wishes!

first of all it's spelled "EMANCIPATED", and secondly, i don't know what DHS stands for, but it's a tough world out there on your own. Take it from a foster child veteran. If you can't find the love with your own family.. try your best to get in with another family that will love you. good luck and sorry to hear about your troubles.

You must be 16 years of age without a criminal record and must be able to hold a job for at least 6months then you have to go to court it and if they find you responsible enough to take care of your self they will emancipate you.

just because she left bruises on you doesn't mean you need to leave. what did you do to have her react that way. everyone isn't innocent. i use to fight with my mom all the time at that age too. running away from your problems doesn't solve anything - she's still your mom!!!

it's spelled emancipated. try talking to a guidance counselor at your school. if it is as serious as you are making it out to be, they will place you through the right channels. you will probably end up in foster care though.

You need to grow up then worry about that. Sounds like you are just a sprout and want your own way. We have enough welfare cases as it is. One more is not needed because they are brats.
Report me, I don't care. It does not hurt.

first thing you need to do is get a lawyer and talk to him/her. they can answer all questions and there are many lawyers who will sit down and talk to you and decide what action needs to be taken, free of charge.
