bachelors degree, associate degree, how do they know if you actually got it?

Typically, the college/university you went to will have a contact for just such a thing. Check the website. Lately, though, they've been hiring out this service, so a potential employer will have to PAY to verify your education. A lot of them won't bother. I've also been to job interviews that required a certified copy of my diploma, but those were government jobs.

My boss requires interns to supply proof of education then he calls the institution and verifies it's authenticity. No proof, no job. He's not going hunting after it or paying anyone else to prove it.
