How global warming makes it snow in Texas.. . on and off for weeks ? How about record snow in Denver ? How about snow in Arizona ? How about 40 inches of snow this week in Michigan ?

I'm being sarcastic, but I do clearly recognize the changes in all of weather . And I saw several reports that the 'conference on global warming' was going to publish an acknowledgment soon that they have NO PROOF that MANKIND has anything to do with it at all .

I think the fanatics on here are 'much too quick to lay the blame on man' . And that stance, without proof, further polarizes them from getting to the truth .

How do you view Global Warming ?

Gee... when I was a little kid in grade school (back before Independence) they taught we were just coming out of an ice age, and the glacial melt caused the Great Lakes... then in high-school (shortly before electricity) they taught that very same thing... now Voila... we have... 50 years later an all new and improved reason for the warming... (groan) Global warming IS happening, a given, but not for the reasons our leftist liberal science sources, politicians and socialist press are reporting. The majority of scientific studies are now discounting Carbon Dioxide emitted by motor vehicles (burning of fossil fuels for our basic energy requirements) as the cause. Geological history indicates natural solar cycles are the culprit, something politicians have no power over so they tend to ignore. The real short-term danger is in fact a buildup of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, but not the buildup of Carbon Dioxide. The real culprit is Methane, a far more potent greenhouse gas, being released into the atmosphere by the (natural) decay of Methane Hydrate occurring (naturally) frozen on the ocean floors, due to the gradual (natural) warming of ocean water by (natural) solar cycles, another item our politicians have no control over and the liberal media will never mention. Follow the money trail... They promote revenue and power by promoting fear. "We just have to do SOMETHING...You know"? So they continue to promote cars as the culprit, people and cars… which do we get rid of first?, (sound like something from the Pol Pot generation?)
There is a natural cyclic atmospheric Co2 increase due to solar cycles, plus the natural atmospheric Co2 exchange due to photosynthesis (natural plant biology). These cycles occur on about 120,000 year intervals according to Vostok Antarctic ice core studies (see the graphs). Man’s contribution to the (new) atmospheric Co2 increase has been estimated at less than 8%. If you do the math, a world wide reduction of fossil fuel use of 10 % would do absolutely nothing to ward off the natural warming cycle, and plunge the world economy in to absolute chaos, causing mass starvation and civil unrest. Who wants to be the first to push THAT button??? The liberals just want an excuse to raise taxes and legislate more control over peoples lives.

Global warming predictions includes huge anomalies in normal weather patterns. Longer periods of drought followed by destructive floods, freezing in places where it's not supposed to freeze while winter shows up in normally cold places in February rather than November.
By taking core samples in the Polar Ice caps much history can be discerned much like boring a tree and analyzing the growth rings. Temperatures have fluctuated throughout the history of the planet. There is a direct correlation between the presence of CO2 in the atmosphere and the temperature of the earth. While natural occurring CO2 has fluctuated due to volcanoes forest fires etc. It has never before reached the levels it has today nor risen so fast and continues to rise. We don't know what all the consequences of this unnatural rise in CO2 but we do know that global temperatures will continue to rise if we don't reverse this trend. The ironic thing is that this could present a golden opportunity for enterprising people who can find positive alternatives to CO2 producing fuels.

The conference on global warming actually returned a finding that mankind is directly related to global warming.

Global warming does not mean that it will be hotter every day than the last. It will tend to snow in winter, just like every other year. What is alarming is that the US recorded it's hottest year ever last year. The previous record? 2005. See a trend?

There is a lot of land based ice that is starting to melt. If temperatures continue to increase, this water (it's on land, mind you) will return to the sea, like pouring a pitcher of water into a half full pool. The pool won't overflow, but you do it enough times and that step that was out of the water is now underwater. If millions of people live on that step. . .

I see your point, but on the same side, Washington DC had spring flowers blooming 3 weeks ago in January. Some ski resorts had to close down for lack of snow. And, most scientists agree that the polar ice caps are getting smaller.

A panel of scientists released findings recently that the effects of oceans rising would be felt in coastal towns in ten years. Ten years. Not a century away!

I don't think anyone says that mankind is 100% responsible. However, there are probably some manmade things that help speed this up.

The interesting thing about it is that since switching to "enviromentally friendly" products in some places, I've actually saved tons of money. By switching to a smaller car, I save at least $50-$100 biweekly on gas. The electricity side of my bill has gone down since I switched to the other bulbs (plus, I'm not constantly switching the damn things.) Next year, I'm taking out my heater and putting in groundsource heating, which will also save me a bunch of money. My out of pocket costs for switching to most of these (other than the new heater) were fairly minimal. I've already saved more from switching than I spent to switch. So why not?

Global Warming is real, gases in our atmosphere do trap heat. The important thing is, how much heat for how much gas, and how much of it is man's fault. As the first poster noted, we have not had much effect on the atmosphere. It is possible that one day our CO2 output will have an effect, but we are a long ways from that. Also, current weather trends globally, man-made or otherwise are slowly warming the planet. This could be cause for alarm and needs to be studied more in depth. Again, this being a significant issue is at least a century if not further away.

There is no peer reviewed scientific proof as to the extent that warming is a natural phenomenon or whether it is influenced by man, just opinion. There are many respected, well qualified academics on the no proof side of the issue that don't recieve the press because it isn't attractive news. It may be happening and it may be man made, but until there is proff and not guesswork throwing money at solving an issue that may or may not exist is stupid.

And anyone who quotes The Day after Tomorrow as scientific fact is a maroon not worthy of any serious consideration. The movie and the effects shown were based on some theories of what might happen and dramatized for effect. Come on you all. Read a fact based book or report, don't rely on movies or news reports to base your opinion.

Back in the 70s it was "Global Cooling."

Do you want to know what is behind the fear-mongering?

Profit.

If they scare people into thinking new products have to be "eco-friendly," they will get people to pay more for the same old technology that has been around for over 20 years.

The second one is the loans to Third World countries. Back in the 70s "Global Cooling" was blamed on factories coming up in India, Mexico, Egypt, etc. So the FMI and WB set limits to the amount of money to be loaned, and raised the interest. To prevent a surge of factories that would worsen the "cooling."

Now, Third World countries are trying to get loans to improve education and health care. So the "Global Warming" issue is smartly blamed on overpulation and higher consumption. More education = more computers, more TVs, more radios, etc. = more electricity consumed = more global warming. More health care = more people = more global warming.

So, now, using the "Global Warming" excuse just like they used "Global Cooling" in the 70s, the WB and the FMI are capping the loans to poor countries and raising the interests.

That's what really is behind it: greed.

i dont know what report you are reading, but the IPCC is releasing one that says they are 90% sure man is accelerating global warming. nobody is saying humans are causing global warming, so for educated conversation sake, stop saying that. we are accelerating it, and no scientific study will disprove that. and even though it was a movie, did you not see "the day after tomorrow." it was actually based on scientific information. global warming disrupts the weather patterns and water currents which carry the weather certain places. thats how weather people can predict weather...by the way storm systems move. global warming throws these patterns all out of whack. thats why its global climate change CAUSED by global warming. it doesnt mean the entire earth in every area will experience a temperature rise.

You must not have read the answers to this question the last time you asked it.

For a start it is still winter. Denver is a mile high it snows there.

Arizona and Texas are not immune to winter storms or snow. Watch the old John Wayne movie Searchers it has a few winter scenes.

Most of the experts now view it as Global Climate Change, not global warming. It's been happening since Adam and Eve. Some areas get cooler, some warmer. We just have to adapt as we have always adapted. Al Gore is raping the american public with his new book but I suppose this will keep him from running for president so, more power to him.
