I've never played AAU basketball before but I have played basketball for five years. I'm trying out for an AAU basketball team this year. Do I have a good chance of making it?

I know you are a girl, but my son tried out for a top 10 ranked AAU team and made it and had never made his school team after trying out 4 years straight. Of course you have a chance!!!Good Luck!

I believe AAU basketball is based on three things
1. Your skill level (of course) if you are good, you should make the team
2. Who you know or have played with or against in the past - if you know some players or coaches on the team that can vouch for your game and you play hard; you should make it
3. If the team has NOT already been chosen (out of your control) - sometimes those AAU coaches already know who they want on the team and unless you are LB or MJ, you have little if any chance of making it. They just offer tryouts because they have to.
So be confident, hard play, hustle, be smart (very important) and give it your best shot and you should be fine ~ Good Luck!

Did you try out for your school team? Do that first (it might be too late this year, though). Even if it's too late, ask your school basketball coach to give you a late tryout strictly for an evaluation. He/she will tell you if you can make it on your school team next year, and/or if it would be worth it to get on an AAU team.
