Forgive me if this has been asked before...has Rowling told us yet what the "Deathly Hallows" are? And if not, what do you think they are? This is pure speculation on my part, but I'm thinking it might have to do with veil covered room in the Ministry of Magic, through which Sirius fell. What do you think?

Ok...I'm going to add to this. Do you think that we have all the clues/information from the previous 6 books to figure out the end?

The Deathly Hollows refers to the place where the Potters lived (Godric's Hollow). Since there were killings there, it became known as the Deathly Hollows.

JKR has yet to explain it straight forward but there are numerous clues to help us make educated guesses.
First, the Latin Roots: Deathly, we all know what that means.
Hallows: means bearing news, tidings, official information. so it breaks down into Tidings of Death.
Also, this is a common misconseption that it is harry potter and the deathly hOllows. it is infact hAllows. so the title may have nothing to do with godric's hollow, however JKR did say in one of her interviews that harry would re-visit the place of his parent's deaths and perhaps their graves too.
we will also find out what the veil is and does. It is refered to in the fifth book as the Veil of Death. This veil pops up in other stories as a portal to the underworld. hmmm... could this help harry in the 7th book?
Also, i think sirius is still alive. in the UK version of the fifth book, Dumbledore never say's he's "dead" he only says "gone". Cryptic messages that could be a clue.

I have no idea. I mean there are so many clues in all the books but if you don't read it slowly enough and know all the other meanings then it's hard to figure them out. I think both Harry and Voldemort are going to die like what happens in most of literature like this. I think sirius might come back but all the hints say that in the previous books there is no way to bring back someone who is dead. I never understand any of her book title until I read the book. I mean like the sixth one. Who knew about snape? I mean how would you figure that out? So I'm just gong to wait for the book to come out and see what happens.

personally, i think that we won't really be able to guess what "deathly hallows" means until the book comes out. much like the title of book 6, "half-blood prince", it will most likely be linked to a very intricate plot, and the words will have their own meaning unique to the HP series. though i think it will have to do with death, possibly having someone (maybe harry?) attempt to go through the veil and come back...

I hadn't thought about it being connected to the Room of Death. Unfortunately I don't think we'll find out ahead of time, Jo didn't tell anyone who the Half Blood Prince was, even hinting that no one had even guessed it when alot of people were guessing Snape. I'm going to try not to drive myself too crazy about it!

I have no idea, but I like your thinking there have been rumors that Sirius would be back so perhaps this is how. I am waiting for July 21 :)

No JK hasn't mentioned what they are but you definetly may be onto something. I'm going to go back and reread books 5 & 6 just to see if I missed something.

No she hasn't but try to listen to the Dec/Jan PotterCast from the-leaky-cauldron.org. They have some very interesting theories.
