There are reports of cars that have been designed that were able to get over 100 miles per gallon, and that the technology is being suppressed / held back to keep profits up by oil companies. Lets face it, the profits the oil companies are making are immoral. Gas could be $1.50 per gallon and still give oil companies big profits.

Conspiracy? no. Are the oil industries interested in selling less oil? obviously no. That 100mpg story has been going around as long as I can remember. I think the real issue is that we want power in our cars; I would venture to guess a 100mpg car has little.
The oil companies don't need to supress anything to keep oil prices up. If oil were $10/bbl (now ~$55-60), we would use so much more and still be reliant on asian oil.

I guess you could call it a conspiracy. I think it's more that they are trying desperately trying to hang on to what they have. If they are smart, however, they would be working desperately to come up with alternative fuels and energy sources. Otherwise, one of these days, they'll become just as obsolete as the wagon and buggy manufacturers when the automobile became popular.
