It really depends on where you live. The cost of living in some places is MUCH higher than Ohio for example, where I live. Perhaps you can look at minimum wage as a starting place and then look at experience and talent as factors for increasing the salary. Next look at what you can afford.

Do you know some teachers at another school? You can explain the situation and then ask if they would mind telling you what they make. This can give you an idea of what your competition is.

I know that often studios will hire high school students for evening classes. Usually they are students who have danced for many years and are also taking classes at the studio. Often they do it for a reduced rate in their own classes, but you could pay them instead. For a high school student I think that minimum wage is a good place to start. You could always give a raise based on performance and the amount of time they have worked for you.
