I've heard anecdotal stories from school guidance counselors of behavior problems with "some" children who play violent games. The reason goes something like this; for person to person interaction the child is praised for their achievement, a reward. For violent video games the reward comes from things blowing up and destruction. So the child starts behaving with people in such a manor that it causes yelling or fights. The child thinks this is the normal reward.
I probably didn't explain that well.
If you want a better grade on your science project, you might think about improving your capitalization at the beginning of sentences and spelling out words like you instead of u.

This is really a loaded question but I'll try to answer as clearly as possible. Violence in video games (much like violence on TV, in the movies, music lyrics, etc) desensitizes us. We live in a world where violence, sex, and profanity are easily accessed by anyone in tune with the world (internet, TV, and so on). the question is CAN they cause more violence in which case I'd have to say yes, they CAN. In most cases I think (or would like to hope) most parents speak to their kids about what's right or wrong, what's real and what's not, and essentially instilling a sense of morality in them. Kids who have that should be able to enjoy video games with violence or any other mature content as long as they have that understanding. This up to the discretion of the parents however since some kids just understand or learn better than others. I hope this helps.

NO...Look at the million and million of kids in Japan, and China and every where else in the world who play the exact games that we play. These kids over there dont seem to be as violent as we are. Its just us here in the US. We are probley the worst country for violence and crimes and its not because of video games

No, I really doubt it, but then again, it depends.
In the average person, with no mental illness's or violent tendancys, violent games will not affect them.
But people with tempers, mental illness's and such, it may effect them. when playing such games as shooters or some things people can tend to get mad when losing and such, or with people with violent behavior, or some mental defects, violent games can cause them to start perceive it as relaity, or just get lost in it and start to effect there bahvior.
But effects on your average everyday person, old or young, is highly undoubtfull. Many people commit violent acts all over the world each day, some so violent and mad that dont even come close to ones kids have have done that played a violent game. But these people never played games and they do evil things, so whos to say violent games cause this bhavior it is very unlikely, only in people with high tempers or mental defects, and possibly small children, since they perceive games as relaity and may want to act it out, it can stick with them, so its not advised for them either.

Anyone that tells you video games inspire violence are people who have never played a videogame. any violent video game nowadays is just to show what events are ALREADY happening in the world. Sure, sometimes they overdramatize things a bit(GTA for example), but i have never had any violent thoughts from video games. Sure, sometimes i wish (some) of the things in games were real, but its just what it is, its a game thats meant to be fun, its not supposed to inspire anything. A quote from a person "If video games inspired our habits, people who play Pacman would be sitting in a dark room listening to repetitive music munching on candy while being chased by people covered in sheets."

I think that, as an avid gamer myself, and having done some research on the subject, that the violence in videogames will not affect you any more than reading violent books or watching CSI. However, there are several 'experts' who would disagree with me, as they have conducted test on many people who play violent video games, ignoring the fact that there may be something else that drives their anger and criminal tendoncies.

It all goes back to upbringing and psychology. You can have 1 kid who will be affected by it, and because of low self-esteem or perhaps because of an abusive relationship with his/her parents they will resort to expressing violent behavior which may or may not be influenced by any violent video games they're playing.
If you have a more normalized kid with a nice family life who is somewhat well adjusted, he or she may play the same video game and not be affected whatsoever.
I think this question is very deep in reality and needs to be addressed under a different section of Yahoo Answers, not under Video & Online Games.

Video games are a vent. In my opinion they help to suppress violent tendencies. They allow people to get rid of anger. In fact some games that are violent can teach you about history(Call of Duty series).
