We've read that advertising in Superbowl costs a lot of money. Yet I see some businesses local to the CBS affiliate city ,including that station's (like CBS5 in San Francisco, CA) own local shows advertise during Superbowl.

I wonder how much these companies (like the local funiture store) pay CBS to advertise during SuperBowl.

The local affiliates always get a few small spots to run promos, or to do the required station identification spot w their call letters given.

Any commercial spots for local advertisers is scarce to non existent & is usually reserved for a select advertiser or two who already spend a significant amount of ad dollars w the station.

Nationally yes, Superbowl ads are grossly expensive. Locally, advertisers are able to buy air time as well. The game hosting network (ie: CBS, NBC, Fox, etc.) is able to sell local advertising thru it's affiliates. The cost of that ad depends on where the ad runs (pre-game, in-game, half-time, post-game), the length of the ad (10 seconds vs 30 seconds) and the size of the market it's going to run in. A 30 second spot in New York City is going to be MUCH more expensive than a 30 second spot in say, Anchorage, Alaska.

I know that doesn't really answer your question persay, but that's the lay of the land!

That is a good questions, but I doubt that any local ads ca run during the super bowl. It may depend if the local network is large enough. But if there are local ads my guess would be the same $$$ as the network wide ads.

I think that they go through the local tv station for that. The major commercials cost 2.6 million dollars for a 30 second spot
