In my opinion, regardless of what religious item you would hold up, if you believe strongly enough, will repel any vampire.
Good question - all vampire movies always deal with using a cross, which of course, does represent Christianity, thus also implying that the vampire in question is of Christian descent as well.

I think the question would depend on the faith of the one holding the cross. I mean just look around you how many crosses can you find in just your room? remember a cross is just 2 sticks that form a "T". strictly speaking then any T could consiveable be a cross so would a vampire be able to read a book? what about natural forming cross shaped things? or what if a vampire had a cross tattoo before he got turned? all things to consider....

Sure as the cross itself by theory is not the repellant the faith behind it is. The theory is that God or allah or whatever supreme being the person beleives in has cursed the vampire and the faith of the holder would put the vampire in tupor. Symbols are just that symbols the faith is the killer and in vampire lore it is not even validated that the cross itself would do anything. that is a western beleif relayed in movies. stick with the sunlight and you dont lose.
