Yes, bringing back body-on-frame rear-wheel drive designs with 1950's handling is a great idea. Let's also fit them with de-tuned late 70's engines.
They should also make the car that Homer Simpson designed for his half-brother Herb.

Not sure about the Gremlin, but I think the Pacer could be modernized with 21st Century technology pretty easily, yet remain pretty much intact. (To correct an earlier poster here, the Pacer is unitized, not body-on-frame.) With modern engine technology, a Pacer with say, a 2.7 V6, would be viable, economical, and closer to the original design and weight specifications from 1971 before the Curtiss-Wright Rotary aircraft engine had to be scrapped. The rest of the car would have no problem meeting today's safety standards, as it was one of the most advanced designs in the world in the 1970s. And of course, we would keep the ride and the comfort. Actually, this is not a bad idea!

I owned an orange Ford Pinto station wagon. The woman I bought it from was a Shultz fan, and she called it the Great Pumpkin. I found that out only after I had already decided to call it the Great Pumpkin! Still, for styling, I'd probably have to go with a Gremlin (one of my favorite girl-friends, a first runner up in a local Dairy Princess contest, drove the first one I ever rode in). Now, if you are asking about which one is most dangerous, I'd have to say the 1974 Ford Pinto Runabout. Ford fixed the problem with subsequent models, though.

The only good thing about both is that they had very large fuel tanks. The only good thing about the gremlin was the engine. That engine was used by Rambler for many years. They stand up very well if properly maintained due to the fact that they had 7 main bearings. A bearing on each side of the connecting rod journals

the pacer would actually be serviceable with a v6 engine in it ( they were designed for a rotary gm never made and they had to stuff their straight 6 into it ) and a gremlin with a fi. 4.0L would rock , chevettet's too , check out the title tune by the wafer thin mints off their CD best car made in 1983 .

If they do, they have to bring back the version of the Gremlin that had genuine Levi denim seats.
