Other people have answered the removal question so I'll tackle the body question. If there is a still birth - that's when the baby dies and the mother gives birth then many families have a funeral and bury/cremate the remains. I think that the parents have some option as to what happens to the fetus but I'm sure that different jurisdictions and hospitals have different rules.

It all depends on how far along the baby is. If it's early in the pregnancy, like before 12 weeks, the body may break down and be expelled as just tissue pieces. If full term, the baby will be born looking like a baby. In between, well, it should pass and it will look a little different because it's not fully formed yet. There will be no fat under the skin and it may look misshapen. How far along are you talking about?

I had that happen to me in my first pregnancy. I went for a routine sonogram at a week away from turning 6 months and my baby was dead. They said my amniotic fluid had been slowly leaking and it was too little for me to notice. It was my first pregnancy and I did not know how it felt when a baby moved or anything. I knew something was not right, though!.
When they took me to the room to give me petocin to expel the baby, I was there for a day and a half and I would not dilate. On They finally had to put me to sleep and do a D & C. Needless to say, I could not see the baby or bury him, it was in no condition to be seen. I had a service at the hospital church and that was all I could do. I am glad to say that after that happened, I got pregnant with my daughter, who is now 6 years old and I am currently 6 months pregnant with a boy, who is very healthy.

It depends...in the UK a foetus is considered viable at 24 weeks gestation. Before this point if it passes away it is considered a miscarriage, after this point it is a stillbirth, and must be issued with birth and death certificates, and you may have a funeral if you wish. Before 24 weeks, most hospitals will give you the opportunity to have a memorial service of some sort, especially if labour had to be induced to get the baby out, rather than a spontaneous miscarriage or d&c.

The hospital (doctor) sometimes asks if you would like to donate the baby's body to science. This way they can check to see what the cause of the baby's death was, and to show the child in that state. However, if you do not want to do that, depending how old the fetus was when it died, you can actually have a memorial service (funeral) for the child.

It depends upon when the pregnancy loss occurs. If it's early enough, it can be expelled as if you are having a heavy period. Sometimes, even though it's early, you will require a d&c to get out the products of conception.
If you are far along, and the baby is stillborn, you may need to deliver it, as if it were alive. That is a truly heartbreaking experience, and I really hope that you don't go through that.

I have some personal experience with this. I was 16 wks along with my last baby when I lost her. I had gone in for a level 2 ultra sound (I had failed my triple screen), and they found that the baby had died. Since my body hadn't started to miscarry the baby yet, they decided to admit me and give me some meds to put me in labor. I delivered her 10 hours later.
They did give me the option of going home and coming in later, but I just couldn't do it, knowing my baby had passed already.
*hugs* I hope you aren't going through this. I would not wish that on my worst enemy.

More than likely the woman will have an D&C where they give her medicine to open her cervix and use an instrument to expel the baby and the other tissues.
It's sort of like a vaccum.
