OMG! a girl at school broke her back, what are the odds that she will be paralysed? if it helps, she was high-jumping...

It all depends on what damage the spinal cord suffered during the fall. A Spinal cord is a very tough fibrous thing, the backbone is also well designed. It takes a big impact to cause damage. Lots of people brake their back and make a full recovery. As for the odds, without too much detail, are in her favour.

the lower the break the less likely that she will be completely imobile. She will have risk of nerve damage which could lead to numbness or partial paralysis. High enough and she could be a quadrapalegic now. Never can tell just wait for the doctors to release a statement and I'm sure your schools administration will keep you informed on her condition and if you have any questions as to her treatment your guidance counselor should have the information or at least be willing to check into it for you if you express concern to them.

She may be; or she may have cracked one of the bones in her back, which is very painful but not paralysing. You have to damage the spinal chord to do that.

Well my Dad broke his back by falling off a teliphone pole onto the high way! He isnt paralized but he has back trouble sometimes! It depends on how bad it is! But no matter what you need to be by her side!
