I have heard of Cornell note taking. Is it helpful? What free websites offer effective note taking?

The first thing I would suggest is to look up the professor's previous exams. Most colleges have past exams on the school website or on file in the library. Looking at the exams are really helpful because it will let you know what kind of information the professor will be looking for. For example, some professors are detail oriented and they want you to know all the dates and names, etc. - for these professors, you'll want to write down all the specifics and probably write down everything that the professor says during the lecture, word for word. Other professors' exams are more theory or idea - oriented. They don't care about specific dates or times, but rather want you to grasp the general idea or purpose. For these professors, you don't need to write down everything word for word, but instead write down important ideas or themes that the professor discusses in class.

In addition, do all of your reading before your class and take notes while doing the reading. Writing notes outside of class will jog your memory while in class. If you've already written down something and the professor mentions it again in class, you know it's important. Also when going over your notes or textbooks, only highlight important key words or phrases. Do not highlight everything.

The main thing is prepare for the class and pay attention to key points within the lecture. Sit in front of the lecture hall or classroom. Ask questions if you need clarification on a point. Watch for verbal and body language of the professor or instructor clues for major points during a lecture. Write detailed notes. Include visuals if needed. Also, take advantage of the instructor's or professor's office hours if additional help is needed along with the campus' tutoring center.

Homework is the artwork which you have discovered in college. Homework sees how a lot you discovered, and you will learn the themes which you have ignored. valuable word taking helps to get the homework executed. it could coach you short cuts for a very difficult situation. Notes are many times what make up the attempt. So basically Notes help you learn for the attempt, together as the homework exhibits you diverse problems that is on the attempt.
