First of all hear some points of mine.
1. To many Libs its ok to kill babies but we should ban the dealth penality. Is that not backwards?
2. You say "its a womens right to choose" OK...in most cases she chooses to have sex, chooses with who, chooses to not be on the pill or use condoms.......Do you not have to deal with the choises you make?
I do think it should be allowed in cases like rape....that was not a choice of the mother.......But what about the choice of the dad....does he not have a say....after all its his kid too.....if he agreed to pay for all the medical bills and such...should he not be allowed to claim his child....we talk so much about dads who won't be dads....and yet if the case came up like this....we wouldn't even give him the choice...thats not right either.....
What are you thoughts?

Just for the record, I posted this because questions like this make for good debate and get people all riled up....not because I think abortion is right or wrong...it legal and thats that......whether I agree with it or not.

1 Abortion has never claimed the life of a baby. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy, it's only a baby after gestation. First it is an embryo, then a fetus, then it's born and is a baby. As a staunch liberal, I think that the only times an abortion should happen is in the case of rape or the life of the mother is at stake. However if a woman can't make up her mind in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy, to bad. I do agree to limiting choise to the first 10 weeks from conception unless the life of the mother situation developed. If a rape victom chooses abortion, they usually take the "emergency contraception" shot in a hospital right after the rape kit is done. If the people who want to end abortion all together could realize that fighting against unwanted pregnancy is the fight they should be in this debate would shift to one of common ground.
1A The death penalty isn't remotely related to Abortion. The death penalty isn't a punnishment, it is revenge. Life in prison without the possability of parole is.
2 Yes you do have to live with the choises you make in life. Are you insinuating that having an Abortion is like clipping your toenails? Are you saying that it is an easy thing to choose to do, or to have done? Sorry but your whole point with #2 is uninformed rhetoric.
3 Fathers rights are many times forgotten in this whole issue, but the father doesn't have to take time from work off in the final weeks of pregnancy. The father doesn't have to go through the hormonal changes, the weight gain, the swolen ankles, the health risks, and all the rest of it.
Is your opposition to Abortion based on a religious view? If it is, then your entire arguement is based on a belief system that is based on myth that is unprovable, and therefor irrelivant.

Abortion if allowed opens up a whole lot of "tag-along" issues like you have pointed out. Study of the unborn fetus to me reveals that its life begins at conception, so to abort the fetus is murder of the undeveloped child. In the case of rape, I think it should be dealt with quickly. Any other use of abortion should not be condoned. Your point about the Dad having a say is interesting, and I had never thought of "his" side of it. If a couple have sex, they are doing it knowing some of the potential outcomes, so there is plenty of opportunity to avoid having to decide whether an abortion is needed. In the old days when I was growing up, this wasn't an option - a young couple dealt with it usually by having a "shotgun" wedding. A lot of these weddings ended in divorce, but the children were given a chance to be born and live. I say no to wholesale abortion.

The most interesting thing to me - past the comments of Meeeeee2007 - is the legal ramification of what you say.
If a woman is not allowed the choice of termination her pregnancy, then you have created a duty for one person (mother) to risk her health for another (baby).
Not everyone is in the same situation.
Imagine a homosexual son of a pro-life father. This person does not communicate with his son due to ideological differences. Is the father required to give up his kidney (something that would probably not kill him, but certaintly make him prone to a shorter life) to save his dying son?
Be careful of the duties you wish to impose and the right you give to a fetus as you may have to deal with the results yourself one day.
Also, you allow personal choice in matters of rape - but not any other time? This is when people just want others to think like they do. This does not support whether abortion is right or wrong.
Perhaps if you realize that many circumstances alter the situation in which a person may be, then you will let them decide on their own - not based on whether YOU think it is okay.

First of all, not all liberals are pro-choice just as all conservatives are not pro-life. To assume so is stupid.
Second, it's obvious from your second point that you're not a woman. What goes on with or in a woman's body is a woman's choice. (And no, I'm not a woman either.)
Third, would YOU like to be the one to tell your son or daughter that he/she was the product of a violent sexual criminal act such as rape? How do you think that's going to make the child feel? How about the feelings of the woman every time she sees the child, which is to her a walking, talking reminder of the most violent and horrific moment in her life? For someone who is obviously against abortion, you show surprisingly little compassion.
And NO, the "dad" in the case of rape does NOT have a say-so in what happens should the woman become pregnant. He gave up all his rights when he became a sexual criminal and raped someone.

What your not thinking of is the many cases where the man wants the woman to get an abortion and pressures and threatens until she does. Yeah you do have to deal with the choices you choose, but abortion is just one way of doing so. What about when the parents make the child get an abortion? What if they can't give the baby up for adoption ,but can't take care of it either. You need to think is it better for the unborn child to grow up with abusive parents, end up in a trash can, poor and hungry, or to not have it at all and save it and you from pain. It's the mom's choice AND the father's choice.

If women have abortion, then should not a dad be able to sign a waiver saying he will not be the father if the woman chooses to not have an abortion.
Afterall, what about equal protection? If women have equal protection under the law, as was one arguement for Roe vs Wade, then men must have some form of legal abortion from their parenting responsibility.
Abortion is termination of parental responsibility. Women have the legal option. Men should too. If people disagree with me, then they should check into why they really support abortion.

1. A fetus is not a baby. And an abortion is not murder.
2. A woman has sovereignty over her own body and whatever is inside.
3. If men want birthing rights, then let them give birth. Otherwise, they are irrelevant to the birthing question. No one can lay claim to any part of another person's body. Sorry, that's just ethics and biology. Men have no claims to a woman's womb. Slavery/ownership/claims ended years ago.

I think that anyone who disagrees with you will find it hard to been seen as making a good point.
You did not just ask a question you created a debate.
Here is my answer and there is no real way to get around this point.
I think that it should be the right of the mother to chose.
And here is why:
We should never pass laws that limit rights. We should make certain that everyone has the chance to live as free as possible and to make choices that make them happy. It is a woman's right if she wants to carry a child to term or not.
Now before you restate your argument about a woman's choice of when, who, and how protected she has sex. Remember that it takes two to make those bad choices. in the end the man doesn't have to have the child, he can leave at anytime and only needs to pay child support and then only if he does not surrender his parental rights. The mother has choices after birth, but she should also have the right to undo the mistake if she so chooses.

First of all Killing babies is a term used by Republicans, or people that do not know what an embryo looks like...it looks more like a frog, and not a baby. If you eat chicken eggs for breakfast that is an embyo you are eating...it doesn't become a chick for 21 days and then if you wait long enough you can go to KFC.
So fyi when a women finds out she is pregnant and her life will suffer economically, or put the burden of raising a child alone, and she has an abortion she is throwing up breakfast.
