It sounds like a virus. Do a virus scan (assuming that you have one) and another scan you might want to run is a spyware scan. I good one to run is Ad-Aware which you can download for free at www.lavasoft.com.

Notwithstanding all of the above, first - are you trying to launch and application when this happens? If so that particular application might be corrupt. Second - if you press control-alt-delete - does your system respond? If the system does respond then you should launch the task manager and see what is causing your system to freeze. If you get into the task manager, check the running applications to see which one is listed as "not responding" and try to end the task. If it shows all applications as "running", then you would want to click on the "Processes" tab and see which process has an unusually large amount of memory usage - jot them down and go to www.google.com and do a little research on them to see if they are normal processes. (of course this is all dependent on whether you can get to the Internet or not).

If the above fails, start your system in "Safe Mode" you can do this by pressing the 'F8' key at the very beginning when the system is in the very early stages of booting up. Run a virus scan in safe mode. You could also take a look at memory usage from safe mode so see if any of the previous applications that were unusually large are missing.

Good luck.

Could be a memory problem, Rhonda, or an incompatible driver somewhere. Best idea is to pin down which program is freezing and what the circumstances were.

Another thing is that regardless of what is freely advertised, you need to reboot the system regularly to regain resources that Windows manages badly.

Hit ctrl alt del and choose task manager. you ned to see what program is freezing. If you just got it i would suggest calling dell and have them fix it. it is definitely under warranty. check to see what program is saying not responding and make sure that piece is up to date with patches. wont be a virus i dont beleive unless you have just downloaded something since it is new i doubt it.

Well,it's probably a virus.Try to scan your computer with the antivirus. But i f you don't find any viruses I'm afraid the only way is to reinstal your OS(operating system-windows).
