What is a good book to recommend to someone to teach them the value and importance of trust? Preferably a work of fiction that illustrates the salient points.

The bible is mostly fiction, and definitely not the best source of morals (read it). Even if that weren't the case, it doesn't have much in the way of explanation.

The person in question is in their 20s.

The book "I Am David" is about trust. Not sure what age you are talking about, but this is an excellent book (there's a movie too, differs ever so slightly). It deals with a boy excaping from a communist labor camp in Bulgaria. Trust is the main theme. Highly recommended by young & old.

What are the results of "no trust" is one approach you can try? There is no trust between Mayella and her mean abusive father in perhaps the best novel of the 20th Century, To Kill A Mockingbird. Of course there is the issue of poverty and skin color, and the drama of the courtroom, but the discussion of parenting daughters is a rich one. Have things changed from the 1930s or 1960s? If not, why? If things have changed from viewpoint of the "student" then why? Agree or disagree, the discussion of the dynamics of a small town (not just in Alabama) and the families in it leads to valuable lessons.

The best book isn't fiction, it is the Bible. It depends on who you are thinking of though. Sometimes it is better for the person if the importance of trust is modeled for them and not just preached to them. Giving someone a book to read about trust seems like preaching to me. Don't tell, show.
