Don't Christians deserve a chance to get together in a group and enjoy the game also? Rules are rules, stop the bars too!

ok
I'm from Indianapolis, and on yesterdays news at noon, there was a story about a local church being told by the NFL that they could not have a gathering at the church to watch the super bowl. the reason being...a church is not a "normal" place to go and watch television be it a football game or an evening show...but...when you go to a bar or a restaurant that has a bar, you always find televisions around the bar area...which is "normal". And it also has something to do with the Neilson or Nelson ratings system

for people who don't know (and actually read other answers before posting), the NFL is telling churches who ARN'T selling tickets and ARN'T using "super bowl" in the title that they can't show the SB on anything bigger than 55" (ie: no projectors) --because the ratings don't count those kind of group viewings

The reason why? The NFL is so $$ driven and power hungry that they think they can make laws in the real world. I'd honestly like to know how the can tell the Churches this when they're (churches) aren't profiting or using the term SB ---it's over air brodcast, it's free! -------It would be like them going to "Bob" 's house and telling him he can't have alot of people over to watch it on his 70" TV ---and thats' just ludacris!! (and to CarlaCCC who said a projector is "rebrodcasting the signal" --just change my example to have Bob playing the game for his large group of friends w/a projector @ his house)

---Now that I read jessi's post...I will have to check out the story---

---and get back to you on that one. But I'm sure they have no right disallowing a non-profit organization from showing anything to it's members.----

What makes you say they don't? I'm having my youth group over for the SuperBowl on Sunday...actually they are coming early. We'll be playing Buzztime Trivia(as seen in sportsbars) and Madden, playing flag football(weather pending) and having a lesson and a devotional. Plus there is the food and of course the game.

A couple of years ago, a few area churches got together and had an all day event that comprised of 6 or 7 churches. They even brought in inflatables like an obstacle course, mech bull, and rock wall.

I'm not christian (before anybody gets started...). I don't see why the NFL would stop churches from showing the game for a group. I know why they don't want to stop bars, Beer ads pay the NFL's big salaries!

The bars are showing the game through televisions. The church wasn't going to show it through a television but wanted to rebroadcast the signal. That's not allowed. Chicago wanted to do something similiar at Soldier Field with proceeds going to charity and the NFL said no. It has nothing to do with it being a church.

THe superbowl kicksoff at 6:25pm EST so if you want to go to church you can go in the morning. The game is never so early that it conflicts with Church time. Where are you from? Bars around here are open on sunday regardless.... what rules do you mean?

What are you talking about? Anyone can watch the game. There are churches as well as bars around here that are showing the game. Watch it where you like.

Christians can gather to watch a game....at someone's house. Just not at a church. That's what the NFL says.

If the church uses a screen 55" and smaller, then it's ok.

who said you couldnt get together and watch the game? doesnt make any sense because tons of people that are going to watch the game and have watched the games in the past are christians anyway.
