I am not in agreement with calling people names, but since when does a person (i.e. Isaiah Washington) have to go to rehab for expressing himself? Ummm, the 1st ammendment comes to mind here. Also, I haven't seen anyone get in trouble for saying b*tch, *ssh*le, or any other colorful words hollywood feels necessary to put in their movies and television. Since when is the word 'f*ggot' illegal? Also, for all you people who equate equality for black people with equality for gay people, get real! Those are such different issues there is no comparison. One's skin color is something one is born with- worthy of equality. Gayness is a choice- a temptation just like any other temptation. And if you want to prove otherwise, please be aware that there is no such thing as a gay gene! Nope, never been proven even though the media would brainwash you to believe otherwise. I am wondering what will be made "acceptable" next.... Polygamy? Pedifilia? Murder? Rape? Incest?

homosexuality raises a whole lot of misinterpretation and misunderstanding. As is shown in the documentary movie "It's not Gay" (available through the AFA website), homosexuality is a choice. That's why there are so many bisexuals. That's also why there are "reformed" homosexuals. And comparing humans to animals?????? Why is that even a subject of conversation. Animals eat their own vomit, lick their anuses and some eat their young or their mates. So does that mean those animalistic behaviours should be acceptable in human behaviors also? Hardly.
Oh I forgot---only the animal behaviors that we wish to observe to excuse our own immorality is OK...right????
But getting back to the point...slander is slander. Using the word ****** in a demeaning, predujice manner is no diferent than using racial slurrs or calling a woman a whore or a slut. It's all wrong.
We as a society have been using slurrs and spouting insults since the dawn of time. I don't think we should suddenly get "hoytie toytie" about saving specific offensive language for stage and screen while avioding others. STOP USING IT ALL!

However, the actual word ****** means a bundle of sticks. It would be good to use it only in the proper reference.

Actually it is, but it's been very toned down over the years. So much so that many people don't consider it a swear word. Most of the ones that do consider it swearing agree that it's probably the mildest word of all. It changes with the times. Back when "Gone With the Wind" first came out, people were shocked and outraged when Clark Gable uttered the word in the film. Nowadays they say it freely on television.

Oy vey. No.

First of all, it is not a fact that homosexuality is a choice - in fact, most educated people believe the opposite. I'm not an expert on the research that's been done, but I do know that homosexuality occurs VERY often in the animal world, and that a recent study of gay rams showed that their brains were different from those of straight rams. The article was in WIRED magazine, I believe - if you're ever curious, you can look it up. Enlightened people don't view following a sexual preference as giving into sin. And it's in no way equivalent to a violent or sexual crime, as it involves only two consenting adult partners.

The other curse words you listed are obviously rude and hurtful (I agree that "Hollywood" could tone down the language a little), but they're not slurs. They're not meant to demean a specific group, the way, say, "f*ggot" is - even if you view homosexuality as wrong, Im' sure you can understand that. No, it's not illegal to say the word, but it is harassment, and it's unacceptable workplace behavior, even if that work is a TV set.
