I think it depends where you stay and whether you have neighbours who care one way or another. In our street if an alarm goes off everybody is out to see what the problem is and we have had collections in the past when our retired elderly neighbours were burgled (their alarm was cut) to help them out until their finances were sorted.
I would say in general though, that the majority of car and house alarms are ignored due to the fact that in the past they accidentally been set off and now have become more of a nuisance than a aid in deterring thieves.

Funny you ask. Our neighbour, two doors down, his alarm went off at 3am a few days back. It stayed on for the rest of the night, keeping me, wife and kids awake. I then went to work next day, came back and it was still going. So I pulled a ladder out of the garage. Pulled the alarm off the wall and dropped it into a bucket of water, which I left by his front door. Peace at last. Would have scratched tw*t into his front door as well, but I refrained. So in answer to your question. Yes. I do.

Not in my street they don't. Or car alarms. And the police don't either. If anyone does anything it's complain about the noise. Why are you a burglar? LOL

Absolutely not, "there goes someones alarm". Only person who would take notice is the police if it is hooked up to their security system.

I would - and indeed have - if I know my neighbours are away/ out at work. You need to have a reliable system that doesn't go off whenever a fly lands on the roof and it helps if you are part of a good neighbourhood watch scheme.

I sometimes consider getting up to key the house owners car, but generally no.

So if the between the lines point is that they are completely pointless - your right.

Entire street was outside my door when the cat set mine going and I couldn't turn it off. Depends how strong your sense of community is

only if its the one next door next to me, its like a WW2 siren keeps half the street a wake.

i think they should be band in built up residential areas, after al its not like anyone has the crown jewels to protect.

Yes, if it wakes me up, I'll take a look out the window to see what's going on.
