Arithmetic: every day I answer 1 yahoo question. My total number of points each day is 0, 2, 4, 6, 8., etc.

Geometric: I go to Las Vegas and bet $1 on black at the roulette wheel. I win. I do it again. I win again. I keep doing it, and I keep winning every time. My total "net worth" from the experience, after each round, is
$2, $4, $8, $16, etc.

Arithmetic series - the series of steps in any stair or ladder, The number of counts of pages in a book, etc In these examples, the difference is a constant. The pages increase by one, the steps increase by one.

Geometric series - the increase in population of bacteria and even just plain People -us., The increase of the amount of your money in a bank earning an interest., etc
The population of bacteria increases exponentially by a constant factor or ratio of 2. Your maney increases exppnentially based on the constant interest rate you get.
