I would like to get my guy friend a gift, but am not sure...... I've been asking other guys for gift ideas, but most of them say that they've never gotten anything from the women they're with, but instead, they get gifts for them. I don't know if he'll think i'm being too forward or not....but I would like to get him something. What do you think....?

Val day is an occasion to show your affection for anyone you care about...a romantic love, friend, grandparent. Men should certainly be recipients of tokens of affection as much as women on this day. How sad for those men with whom you spoke that no woman has been generous enough to be considerate of them. They should start looking for a better quality woman (like yourself). I applaud your desire to show this gentleman you care...some ideas (depending on the length/seriousness of the relationship)...
his favorite homemade cookies in a heart shaped container
a night out (your treat), esp if he usually treats
cologne
silk heart boxers
a homemade card with a verse writen from your heart
some sexy act that you've yet to share with him (ya know!)
suprise him when he comes to the door w/ whipped cream and strawberries and a sexy outfit or your bday suit
an engraved watch
a cute stuffed animal that says something funny
suprise him with flowers or a cookie bouquet at the office (why should only women get that?

There are lots of things to do to make the day special...you know him best...what would make him happy?

The beauty of a gift is, the fact that you gave it. If he's any kind of decent guy, he'll appreciate the gift to whatever degree you strive for. Avoid the commercial jib-jab like hallmark and whatnot and make it original...that way, nothing is assumed about the gift and you can have a bit of control as to how he perceives it. IMHO, V-day is for love...men and women alike.

Also, you might want to check out some information about V-day in other countries; there are some unique traditions out there (e.g. In Korea, V-day is a set of 3 separate days Feb., Mar., and Apr. 14th, of which on Feb. 14th men don't get anything for their ladies, but ladies always get something for their men (or someone they are interested in)... food for thought...

It depends on what countries you are referring to. In 1st world countries, both men an women face equal hardships. men may face losing their children after divorce and are often put down by society without society realizing they are doing it. On the other hand, women in 1st world countries still face issues like rape, low salary, troubles having children while working, no maternity leave, and even discrimination in the workplace. Though, women do have benefits that men don't. In third world countries or anything in between, there is no question who has it worse.

it is targeted more to the women and less to the men. That's why this year, I'm taking my boyfriend out for dinner and give him a special gift and cater to him. He's done so many wonderful things for me over the course of the 4 valentine's we've shared, I intend to return the favor. I urge you to do the same, only if he deserves it.

Pretty much it's a woman's thing. most men think V-Day is a dumb holiday. But I think it's about doing something speical and fun for the one you love.
As for gifts.....to me that's kinda overrated..I think doing something for them is more special. Like cooking him dinner or taking him out to eat rather than him always buying your dinner. You could make chocolate covered strawberries for him. This is my favorite. My boyfriend started this a couple of years ago and we now do it every V-Day!!

No! It all evens out, I think. Except when you consider same sex couples. But, no, guys like the holiday, too. Just take a look into the Hallmark aisle or the Victoria's Secret store in the mall! PACKED!!! (with guys) Go for it, honey. Keep romance alive!

It doesn't take much to make people happy. Here in Mexico (we're here for the winter), they have the right idea. Valentine's also denotes friendship, and you can give something to your neighbor!! So, get him a big Hershey Kiss and he'll be happy!

Valentine's day is more of an occasion for those trying to sell greeting cards and chocolate blobs than anything.

I consider V-Day canceled, over 3 decades ago.
You're so behind the times, back in the last days.
